Interview with Mike Battle

This is a link to an interview with the legendary Mike Battle, inventor of the Echoplex tape delay. Who would have thought that something originally made for country and western guitarists would end up playing such a massive roll in both popular and underground electronic music. I find it really fascinating that people like Mike Battle and Robert Moog who have both done groundbreaking things for music are quick to point out that they are not musicians. I really need to get my hands on either an Echoplex or a Space Echo one day..

Music post: Ocelot

Ocelot

Cory Killduff of electronic duo Ocelot answers a few questions and shares some of his music. Download their single HERE Check out more, including remixes at http://www.ourtimeunited.com/

How long have you been making electronic music? How did you get started?

About 5 years seriously now. Jimmy and I used to play in a hardcore band called The Rise that had synths and electronics involved that we were mainly responsible for. During the writing of the last record for tat band we started doing stuff on our own lke remixing friends bands and dabbling in some original material. In the beginning it was way more in the idm digital hardcore vein. We were drawing more from Kid 606, Squarepusher and Autechre than from Daft Punk and the Tech House scene like we do now.

If you could get any hardware synth what would it be?

An original black and orange face Arp 2600. but the next one I buy thats realistic will be a dave smith prophet 08 pe.

What is in store for Ocelot in the next year?

We got a couple singles and video coming out before the summer and then our album comes out in May.

Add N To (X) is/was a great band. Click the picture to make noise on their website.

I have to go to Houston and play a show on Wednesday but will be able to begin documenting my Moog Liberation restoration afterwards. My girlfriend found a Yamaha SHS-10 keytar that we may be able to get our hands on for a really good price, so I am pretty excited about that as well. Stay tuned!

A beautiful collection of synthesizers. I think my next vintage purchase needs to be a Korg MS series for sure.

Yamatsuka Eye of Boredoms, Hanatarash, Naked City etc..

end of the year, bring on the new one.

The end of a decade and a strange one at that. I have been thinking a lot about what a weird trip the last ten years have been and have realized that it could not have ended better for me. In 2008 I had hit rock bottom, I let people get the best of me and virtually everything that could go wrong, did… all at the same time. I did not realize that I was letting people and personal issues hold me back so much until I had completely given up and succumbed to a period of depression unlike anything that I had ever experienced before. For the first time I found myself alone, in a city that I did not even want to move to in the first place. I promised myself that 2009 would be better, not perfect, but just better. I made some
